Hawke's Bay Netball

Central Zone Tournament ↓

Twelve players, identified through either Centre Representative Netball or the Lower North Island Secondary School Tournament, are observed by representative coaches and independent selectors to form the team that will take part in the Central Zone Tournament. This tournament provides players with the opportunity to be seen by the Emerging Talent Panel and gain exposure to wider Central Zone teams.

Advanced Camp ↓

From the Central Zone Tournament, thirty players across the Central Zone are selected to attend Advanced Camp. The camp focuses on technical and tactical skills, as well as athlete education, including recovery, nutrition, and performance preparation. This stage prepares players for a long-term netball career and supports the goal of a home-grown Pulse team and a dominant Central Zone nationally.

National Development Camp ↓

Following the Advanced Camp, players may be nominated for the National Development Camp (NDC), where ninety secondary-school athletes from across the country attend regional three-day camps. Selection is made by Netball New Zealand based on Zone nominations and monitoring by the Emerging Talent Panel. The camp provides movement screening, fitness testing, skill sessions, position-specific work, and match play, challenging athletes both on and off court while giving insight into what it takes to perform at the highest level.

New Zealand Secondary Schools

The final stage in this pathway is the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) programme, which brings together the country’s top secondary school Netball players. Athletes further develop their skills, compete in high-level matches, and gain experience needed to perform at the national level. This programme is a key pathway for players aspiring to representative and national teams.
