Hawke's Bay Netball's Lowson Collins Tournaments saw a record number of team participate in the Pre-Season Competition. It was none stop action will all 10 courts in play all day long.
The secondary school grade saw a dominant performance from Mana All Stars from Porirua. There was excitement in the race to meet Mana in the final, with Sacred Heart College needed a 14-point victory against Te Ara Hou, to pip Taradale High School. An impressive 2nd half performance got them just over the line, winning 17-3.
Senior Six was taken out with an impressive performance by Waitangi Marae, on their Tournament debut. It was great to see the whanau support all around the courts for the day, the atmosphere was great.
The OGEEZ and Eskie Peskie were tied at the top of Senior Five with 4 wins out of 4 before they took on each other in the final game. In an extremely tight game OGEEZ edged it 14-13 and with it secured the grade win.
Wildcats Tigers and Blue Heights were too strong in Grades Four & Three respectively, being relatively untroubled, winning 5 out 5 games to top the grade standings. Senior Two was dominated by a strong All In Revamp team, with Clive Ferns the closest competitors.
All In defended their top grade title from 2018, taking out the top two spots in the Senior One. All matches in the grade were extremely competitive, highlighted by the fact Toki Mana, Havelock North Matai and Marewa all finished with 2 wins and 3 losses each. With the 5 HB teams in the Grade making up half the teams in the Hawke’s Bay SUPER 8 Qualifying Competition, there is sure to be some exciting matches on show.
The lunch break was filled by the Shooting Competition. Three goals was the most common outcome, however, two managed to get to four in the allocated 30 seconds, those individuals were Legacy Harrison of MAC Oranga and Nikki Livingstone of Havelock North Matai. Before we could get to their sudden death play-off for the top prize, we had to determine the 3rd Place spot between the 6 successful triple shooters, Blue Heights’ Aaria Campbell Birch taking the spot.
Legacy shot the winner to ‘retain’ the title for MAC Oranga, who took out last year’s competition also. Get practicing those long shots throughout the 2019 and see if you can stop a Treble for MAC and pick up a Podium Prize in 2020 in the process!
The event was supported brilliantly by Eskview Netball Club, who put on a superb food stall for the day. A record number of teams at the event from out with our Hawke’s Bay Region really added to the day, thank you to Mana College, Panthers Netball and Te Moana for making Lowson Collins 2019 that extra bit special.
